GOSHEN – A 28-year-old Newburgh man who pled guilty in Orange County Court to stabbing another man to death on Broadway in the City of Newburgh, was sentenced in county court on Thursday to 15 years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.

Eric McCollum had pled guilty to manslaughter in connection with the May 28, 2023 stabbing death of 38-year-old Jose Soto near the 411 Lounge.

It was alleged that at 1:45 a.m., the two argued with McCollum stabbing Soto once in the torso, piercing his heart.

McCollum fled the scene but was apprehended by Newburgh City Police days after the incident.

“Senseless violence can, tragically, result in irreversible consequences,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “The sentence imposed in this case is just in light of the defendant’s admitted conduct.”
