TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Route 44 Thursday evening in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The accident, near the intersection of Dutchess Turnpike (Route 44) and Darrow Place, occurred at approximately 7 p.m.
First responders were dispatched to the area for a report of an unconscious, unresponsive man lying in the roadway at the Route 44 and Darrow Place intersection.
The unidentified man was transported to MidHudson Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Town of Poughkeepsie Police closed down the road to perform an accident reconstruction Tuesday night. The road was reopened to traffic at approximately 10:10 PM.
The vehicle involved in the collision was impounded by the police and towed from the scene.
