DUTCHESS COUNTY – Following a meeting of the Dutchess County Legislature on Monday, the Republicans gathered to choose their nominee to serve as chairman of the full body in January.  The legislature’s majority party has selected current Majority Leader Will Truitt (R-Hyde Park) to serve as Chairman of the Legislature beginning in January.

Current Chairman Gregg Pulver (R-Pine Plains) lost his re-election bid in November and will not be returning to the legislature.  Instead, the long-time public servant will serve as the Dutchess County Comptroller, replacing Democrat Robin Lois who has been named Deputy New York State Comptroller beginning next month.

Truitt hinted at a legislature that works with both parties when he takes the reigns.  “I’m honored to have the support of the Republican caucus as the next Chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature,” he said, adding “I look forward to working with members of both parties to continue strengthening our community and building upon the success of previous legislatures.”
