Weapon seized following shooting through apartment floor

NEW ROCHELLE – A 34-year-old New Rochelle man has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment for firing a 9mm Ruger handgun into his ceiling with the round coming through the floor of an apartment above.

New Rochelle Police said on Sunday, a local woman said she heard a gunshot around 12:30 a.m. butt did not see any damage until later.

Just before 7 a.m., she called police to say she saw a bullet hole in the floor of her apartment at 132 Beechwood Avenue.

The investigation led detectives to obtain a search warrant for Javier Lopez’s apartment where they found the defaced gun with five live rounds of ammunition in his apartment.

He was arrested without incident.

There were no injuries and police aid the reason for the shooting was not disclosed by Lopez.

He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon for possessing a defaced gun for concealment.
