CALLICOON – A 24-year-old Obenberg, New York was killed as she walked on the North Branch Callicoon Center Road in the Town of Callicoon , the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office reported on Monday.
Undersheriff Eric Chaboty identified the victim as Eva Jacobs, who was struck by a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by James Kavarnos, 68, of Callicoon Center.
The driver stopped after the collision and rendered first aid right after the 4 p.m. accident on Wednesday, December 13.
Witnesses told police the victim had apparently darted out into the roadway.
North Branch and Callicoon Center fire departments responded to the call along with Jeffersonville EMS.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver passed a field sobriety test and was not issued any tickets, Chaboty said.
Deputy sheriffs were assisted at the scene by the State Police.
The investigation is continuing.
