LOCH SHELDRAKE- Dozens of cars lined up early for the sixth annual New Hope Community outreach dinner that provides bags of food for families in need.  A community volunteer knitted scarves and Santa and his elves were on hand to spread holiday cheer.

Mechela Hillman, Communications Coordinator for New Hope Community explained the program and the support New Hope Community receives from local businesses to make the food giveaway possible.

“We work with Sam’s Club in Middletown, they are really great to work with,” said Hillman.  “We work with Jenkins-Lueken Orchard in New Paltz, and they donate apples to us, so we are really, really thankful for that.  And then we also work with Texas Roadhouse and Red Lobster in Middletown.”

Debra McGinness, New Hope Community’s CEO says this year the organization will deliver hot food for 580 people along with $25 gift cards to ShopRite.

“There is more than just this that speaks to food insecurity,” said McGinness.  “But I think this is something that will stay with us forevermore, because it’s important to provide this and I know it is something that has a positive impact.”
