KINGSTON – A ribbon cutting Thursday at the City of Kingston’s water treatment plant marked the completion of a $9.5 million upgrade project.

Mayor Steven Noble said the work was performed for a couple of reasons.

“We wanted to improve the water quality of the Rondout Creek, and we wanted to upgrade our plant to save energy in its everyday operations,” said Mayor Steve Noble.”

The project, which started in 2022, includes improvements that will help limit ammonia and nitrogen emitted into the Rondout Creek. New energy efficient blowers have also been installed on the aeration tanks that will save the city 33 percent in energy costs.

“This plant came together in the ‘40s, had some upgrades in the ‘70s,” said Noble. “It hasn’t seen anything like a $9.5 million in a very long time, so it was really needed, and we’re very happy with how well it came out and much improvement it’s going to make to our water quality and the operations of the plant.”
