DUTCHESS COUNTY – The Republicans in the Dutchess County Legislature, who maintained a sizeable majority following the November elections, are preparing to select their nominee for chairman of the legislature on December 18, 2023, in a closed-door meeting reorganizational caucus.  The vote will occur following a meeting of the full legislature held earlier that evening.

Multiple sources have told Mid-Hudson News that three Republicans are being considered for the job: Majority Leader Will Truitt (Dist. 7 Hyde Park), Assistant Majority Leader Deidre Houston (Dist. 25 Amenia), and Chairman of the Budget, Finance, and Personnel Committee, Michael Polasek (Dist. 3 LaGrange).

Current  Chairman Gregg Pulver was defeated in November and will not be returning to the legislature.  Pulver will, however, be returning to work in the county building, having been appointed to serve as Dutchess County Comptroller for 2024, filling a vacancy created by the departure of current Comptroller Robin Lois, a Democrat who is taking a position as Deputy New York State Comptroller under Tom DiNapoli in January.
