CORNWALL-ON-HUDSON – In response to growing food insecurity in the region, the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley has launched a capital campaign to construct its new, state-of-the-art distribution facility in the Town of Montgomery.  The new resource will replace the existing food distribution center, in Cornwall-on-Hudson, which is too small to accommodate the growing needs of the not-for-profit organization.

The fundraising campaign, “Growing to Feed Our Community,” seeks to raise $6.5 million over the next several months, and the food bank is looking for donations from community members who would like to help.

Food Bank of the Hudson Valley CEO Tom Nardacci said there is a definite need for the new facility.

“We distribute 20 million pounds of food within six counties in the Hudson Valley, and 12 million pounds of that food has to come from our Albany County facility because we just don’t have the room here,” said Nardacci.

Nardacci said the new facility will allow the food bank to source all of the food it needs in the Hudson Valley, from the Hudson Valley.  Nardacci said the food bank is working expensively with local farmers and producers and the new distribution center will allow the organization to further expand those partnerships.
