Man stabs brother-in-law at birthday party

HILLCREST – A 24-year-old Hillcrest man has been charged with stabbing his brother-in-law during a large birthday party on Sunday, November 26, Ramapo Town Police said.

The gathering at a  residence on Bonnie Court had continued from the previous day.

Police said a fight broke out between the two men and the suspect was thrown out of the party.

While police were at the house dealing with several intoxicated people, the suspect, whose name was not made public, kicked in the front door, pulled a knife, held it to the other man’s neck and threatened to stab him.

The victim attempted to grab the knife and was stabbed in the upper chest and a police officer, who witnessed the assault, deployed a Taser, and gained control of the suspect, placing him under arrest.

The victim, who police said sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound, was transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

It was later determined that during the initial altercation, the suspect also punched a 12-year-old girl in the face, causing physical injuries.

The suspect was charged with two counts of assault, burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
