HYDE PARK-  Fire ripped through a house on Friday morning, reducing it to a burned-out shell on Honeywell Lane in Hyde Park.

The fire was reported to Dutchess County 911 at approximately 7:53 a.m.  The Roosevelt Fire District chief was at the scene within five minutes and confirmed a heavy fire coming from the windows of the first and second floors of the dwelling.

Chief Jeff Scala requested the sounding of a second alarm to bring additional manpower and equipment to the scene which sits almost 1,000 feet from the road.  Firefighters were required to draw water from Greenfields Pond to douse the flames.  Use of the pond forced the closure of Cream Street and Honeywell Lane until about 11:30 a.m.

“The bulk of the fire was knocked down within 30 minutes which allowed the firefighters to begin the overhaul process,” Scala said.  The fire appears to have been accidental but the cause and origin is being investigated by the Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division, the chief said.

Roosevelt firefighters were assisted by the Fairview, Hyde Park, and Pleasant Valley  Fire Departments in battling the blaze.

The American Red Cross responded to assist the occupants of the dwelling.

No injuries were reported.
