MIDDLETOWN – Temperatures in the upper 20s did not dissuade hundreds of people from attending the annual Middletown Christmas parade and tree lighting at John F. Degnan Festival Square on Friday evening.

Residents from the city and neighboring towns lined the street while Degnan Square saw hundreds of people standing shoulder to shoulder.

The parade included the Middletown High School marching band followed by firetruck carrying Santa himself on the back.

He then went up in a cherry picker to flip the switch and light the tree to the cheers, oohs and ahhs of all in attendance.
