MONTICELLO – Amanda Ward and Terry Bernardo, both Republicans have won their respective Sullivan County Legislature seats.

Amanda Ward captured District 8, defeating Democrat Justin Piociotti, 831 to 631.

She said she is “eager to serve our community and work tirelessly to represent your voices. Together, let’s build a brighter future for all our neighbors.”

In District 9, Monticello Mayor George Nikolados, a Democrat, lost to Republican Terry Bernardo, 839 to 765.

Several years ago, when Bernardo lived in Ulster County, was chairwoman of that county legislature and she would hope to bring that experience to his new post.

“When I look over in Ulster County, I went to the most senior members of the legislature and asked them if they would feel comfortable doing Roberts Rules training for the new legislators and they all expressed that they would like to have some training, and we can bring that sort of training to Sullivan County.”

During the last two years, often times Sullivan Legislature sessions became chaotic with one lawmaker interrupting another.
