HURLEYVILLE- The call is out for participants for the annual tree decorating contest sponsored by the Sullivan County Historical Society.  The event, which takes place at the Sullivan County Museum, will be held on Saturday, December 2nd in conjunction with the Holiday in Hurleyville Festival.

“Folks are invited to bring an artificial tree and their own lights,” said Carol Smith, executive director of the Fredrick Cook Society.  She explained that the event is about creating a unique themed exhibit.  Individuals and groups are invited to participate.
“The idea is to put decorations on the tree that speak to the purpose of your organization,” said Smith.  “The garden club does a gorgeous tree with vintage ornaments.  The Sullivan Catskill Visitors Association does one as well.”
She also says there are very special trees individuals display each year.
“A lot of individuals just want to put up a tree as memorial to their spouse or a loved one.  Over the years, we’ve had some very sentimental and beautiful family trees,” said Smith.
If you are interested in displaying a tree, contact the Sullivan County Historical Society at 845-434-8044.
