CLINTON CORNERS – New York State Troopers were forced to stop traffic on the Taconic State Parkway in Clinton Corners on Sunday afternoon, due to an encounter with a cow.  The scenario played out of the police radio to the delight of many listeners tuned to the frequency.

The encounter took place on both the north and southbound sides of the parkway between Slat Point Turnpike and Willow Lane.  The trooper notified dispatch that he and a second trooper were trying to stop traffic because of a black cow in the vicinity of mile marker 60 in the northbound lane.  The dispatcher indicated they might be able to contact the owner.  Moments later, the trooper was back on the air, asking dispatch to have the owner expedite their response to the scene, noting that they were in a foot pursuit with the beast, saying “The cow tried running me over.”

Dispatch indicated they had spoken to the owner who had advised that “They are not nice cows, they are roping cows,” and she followed with an audible smile when she asked the trooper if he had any rope with him.  Roping cows are typically used in rodeo settings.

It remains unclear if the beast was taken into custody by the police or if the owner captured the wayward wanderer.
