MIDDLETOWN – Upscale department store shopping has returned to Middletown decades after Tompkins and Greens department stores fled the North Street corridor. Many relocated to the Orange Plaza, and later, the Galleria at Crystal Run, both in the Town of Wallkill.

The New Middletown is a brand-new makeover of the former Tompkins store downtown and hundreds lined North Street on Friday to welcome the store with its two floors of merchandise.

Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the new venue will bring a continued boost to the city’s shopping district, which is in the midst of a renaissance.

The shop features everything from gift items from across the globe and the United States, to fashions and everything in between.
