Man charged with Medicare fraud and kickback scheme

WHITE PLAINS – A Pelham Manor man has been arrested on federal charges involving a healthcare fraud and kickback scheme involving the sale of fraudulent prescriptions.

It is alleged that Manishkumar Patel, 44, generated fraudulent prescriptions used to bill Medicare for millions of dollars un unnecessary healthcare expenses, said US Attorney Damian Williams.

A five-count indictment alleges that Patel and a co-conspirator fraudulently sold prescriptions and doctors’ orders for durable medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory tests to durable medical equipment suppliers, pharmacies, and laboratories.

If convicted, Patel could face up to 20 years in prison on charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, health care fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to violate the Anti-Kickback Statute, and violation of the Anti-Kickback Statute.
