PLEASANT VALLEY – Four members of the town board on Monday night, made a budget adjustment to the supervisor’s office.  In a bipartisan vote, Town Supervisor John DelVecchio and three fellow board members opted to adjust the proposed 2024 budget by reducing the salary for the supervisor and making the position a part-time job.  Councilman Mike Rifenburgh was absent.

The current salary for the full-time supervisor is $40,000 annually plus an additional $24,000 of health insurance for the supervisor and spouse.  The salary and benefits combined cost the taxpayers $64,000 annually.  The town recently hired a full-time legislative aide who will be tasked with the day-to-day operations of the supervisor’s office, freeing up time for the town’s top official.

“By tasking the legislative aide with the daily minutia of town government, the incoming supervisor will have the ability to focus on large projects under consideration by the board,” said Councilman Frank Mazzella.  “This is a cost-savings measure that was approved in a bipartisan vote.  The supervisor position was never intended to be the sole manager of the town and this adjustment reflects that stance.”

Additional adjustments to the town’s 2024 spending plan are expected when the board reconvenes in early November.
