POUGHKEEPSIE – An 18-year-old who was part of a group that allegedly assaulted a 66-year-old man in a restaurant was arraigned in Dutchess County Court on Thursday.  The attack that a witness called “brutal” took place at the McDonald’s restaurant on Route 376 in Hopewell Junction in August.  (The Mid-Hudson News account of the incident can be found here.)

Richard Salvatore Jr, a Putnam County resident, was arraigned before Dutchess County Court Judge Edward McLoughlin on the felony charge of assault.  He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $50,000 bail, $100,000 bond or $500,000 partially-secured bond.

The second teen being prosecuted as an adult in the case, Joseph Portanova, was sent to the Dutchess County Jail after his original court appearance in August.  He was recently indicted by a grand jury on felony assault.  He is being held on $10,000 cash bail, $20,000 secured bond, or $80,000 partially-secured bond and is scheduled to be arraigned before Judge McLoughlin on Friday.

The third participant is a juvenile and will be processed in the Youth Part of the Dutchess County Court due to the “Raise the Age” law changes in New York.
