HUDSON – Organizations in Columbia and Dutchess counties will each be receiving $1.5 million to fund the construction of affordable housing.

The announcement was made Thursday by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and area Assemblywoman Didi Barrett, both Democrats.

A total of $1.5 million has been allocated to Columbia County Habitat for Humanity to purchase materials to create more affordable homes for first-time homeowners and the other $1.5 million allocated to Dutchess County-based Hudson River Housing for the development of affordable rental units.

Both of these organizations received a significant amount of funding allocated specifically for housing in the City of Hudson, which continues to face a profound affordable housing crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Barrett said.
