School bus and car burst into flames after crash

TOWN OF WALLKILL – All occupants escaped from a school bus and a Hyundai Elantra when the car rear-ended the bus on Interstate 84 in the Town of Wallkill shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, State Police report.

Both vehicles caught fire and were completely engulfed by flames, but everyone onboard escaped safely.

Troopers said the bus was carrying students to the school from a Minisink Valley volleyball match against Our Lady of Lourdes School.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but police said there appears to be no impairment involved.

There were no injuries, and no one required medical attention, police said.
