ALBANY- If you’re searching for that perfect drink on Sunday morning, you’re in luck.  On Saturday, Governor Kathy Hochul approved changes to the law that allow liquor stores to open at 10 a.m. on Sundays instead of noon, and allow retailers to sell beer before 8 a.m. on Sundays.

“Across New York, breweries, distilleries, and other alcoholic beverage businesses are creating jobs and expanding economic opportunity,” Governor Hochul said.  “I’m proud to sign this legislation that will modernize the laws governing the sales of alcoholic beverages in New York.”

State Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall) who represents parts of Orange County, was the Senate sponsor of the bill expanding the retail sale of beer.  Previously, retail sales of beer was prohibited between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on Sundays.

“Prohibition was nearly a century ago,” said Skoufis.  This legislative package breathes some fresh life into our state’s antiquated alcohol laws by permitting wine and liquor stores to open for additional hours on Sundays, allowing for the sale of promotional items, and more.”

The changes take effect immediately.
