Kingston Italian Festival

KINGSTON – If you went down to Kingston’s Rondout waterfront Sunday for lunch, you likely realized you had too many choices.

Jugglers at Italian Festival

The Ulster County Italian Festival closed down the waterfront with music, food and entertainment, and Rondout restaurants were open along with many, many food vendors like Jo Burruby.

Burruby owns the Frozen Caboose Ice Cream Shop, in Highland and a food truck for festivals and other events, known as the Caboose on the Loose.

“This place will be packed,” she said, of the upcoming dinner hour later in the day. “This is nothing.”

This is Burruby’s third Italian fest on the Rondout with her ice cream truck and all have been well attended. But as a far as the abundance of food at the fest, Burruby seemed to have an understanding of why it is so much a part of Italian culture.

“I don’t know, but it’s great,” she said. “You have a lot of choices.”

As many waited in line for food, a street musician played his accordion for passersby and those who stopped to listen. The Mid-Hudson Juggling Club also entertained those fixated by their ability to throw objects moving back and forth.

“It’s concentration and muscle memory,” said Hyde Park’s Jamie Gregerson, who has been juggling since he was 13 years old and has juggled with fire.

The club goes to many events every year, and Sunday’s fest was one of those as the festival season grinds toward the end with autumn’s progression.

“We have several events every year,” said Gregerson. “This is about the third time we have done this.”
