CPV electric generating plan in Wawayanda

ALBANY – The Competitive Power Venture’s electric generating plant in the Town of Wawayanda has been operating for the last several years under a cloud of concerns that the facility was approved under some potentially “shady” deals in Albany.

Senator James Skoufis (D, Cornwall), chairman of the Senate Investigations Committee, has just launched an investigation into how the power plant, sandwiched between Interstate 84 and Route 6, was approved and built.

He announced on Thursday that his investigations committee will take a several months-long look into how it was approved.

“The focus of the investigation is focused on communications that took place, or potentially took place, former Governor (Andrew) Cuomo’s administration, CPV and the DEC, and determining if there was undue influence, inappropriate communications, interference in the permitting process,” he said.

Skoufis has just sent out requests for documentation pertaining to the project and he expects full compliance. If not, he will consider subpoenaing those documents to conduct his committee’s investigation.
