DEC is making changes to licenses required by sportsmen.

ALBANY – Oregon has become the ninth state to ban wildlife killing contests and there is a push on for New York Governor Hochul to sign similar legislation.

Brian Shapiro of Woodstock, New York director of the Humane Society of the United States, is backing the proposal.

“We do think that it’s time for this bill to be signed by the governor. This is something that protects our natural resources, and it is also the right thing to do. New York is posed to be the 10th state to end these wildlife for cash competitions which serve no purpose whatsoever,” he said.

Shapiro said wildlife belongs to all the people of the entire state, not just “A fringe group that simply uses our resources for cash profit.”
