WASHINGTON – More than $11 million in federal money has been targeted to plant thousands of trees in the Hudson Valley “and expand youth education and job training programs to help make the community greener,” Senator Charles Schumer announced.

The funding comes from the Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry program and is included in the Inflation Reduction Act.

Groundwork Hudson Valley in Yonkers will receive over $5.5 million. The cities of Mount Vernon, White Plains and Yonkers will each receive $1 million as will the Village of Haverstraw and the City of Port Jervis Community Development Agency.

The City of Kingston will receive $500,000 and the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson will receive over $433,000.

“Investing in helping green spaces grow not only improves quality of life, it helps tackle systemic inequalities like urban heat islands, create cleaner air and so much more,” said Schumer.
