Honey for a sweet new year as the Jewish High Holy Days begin

MID-HUDSON – The Jewish New Year began at sundown Friday with the start of the two days of Rosh Hashanah

. The holiday observance ends on Sunday evening into Monday, September 24-25 when Yom Kippur is celebrated.

The holidays are meant to ask God to be inscribed in the “Book of Life” in the new year and to celebrate with a sweet year.

Yom Kippur is a day of atonement where adults fast all day.

Observant Jews spend most of the holidays in prayer.
