CARMEL – Long-time Putnam County employee Thomas “Tommy” Feighery has been named the county’s new commissioner of Public Works. Since January he has been serving as acting administrator of the Department of Highway and Facilities before it being reorganized as Public Works.

Feighery previously served as deputy county executive under County Executive MaryEllen Odell after serving as a project manager in the Highway and Facilities Department.

His nomination by County Executive Kevin Byrne must be confirmed by the county legislature.

Feighery has experience in building and construction management having supervised commercial, residential, and tunnel construction for over 30 years in Manhattan with Local 147 Sandhogs.

He was also a small business owner operating Fiddler’s Green Pub for 35 years.

Byrne said Feighery has done well since taking over the acting post “assisting us through a massive storm back in July that caused millions of dollars in damage to county roads and property.”

The county executive said Feighery’s “attitude, professionalism, and willingness to work tirelessly for the residents of Putnam County will continue to be a huge benefit to our entire community.”
