Businessman watching video surveillance helps police corner burglar

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A caller from the State Farm Insurance office on Route 17K in the Town of Newburgh helped police capture a man who had broken into a law office next door.

The incident occurred Monday morning.

Town Police received a call from the insurance office at around 8:20 a.m. to report as he reviewed video tape, he noticed a suspect who tried to break into his building by kicking the door several times.

He then told police the suspect was breaking into the building next door which houses the Martini Law Offices.

Police dispatched K-9 Officer Thompson with K-9 Durak and the pair located the suspect and took him into custody.

Samuel Espada, 44, of Harriman, was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

He also had a warrant out of the City of Middletown.

As per the state’s bail reform law, an appearance ticket was issued on the Town of Newburgh charges and the City of Middletown issued an appearance ticket for the warrant.

Espada was released from custody with a return court date.
