Dear Editor:

In a recent letter, the gas industry front group New Yorkers for Affordable Energy continued its disinformation spree with the claim that Central Hudson is not a part of its coalition.  The group also took down its website to prevent readers from finding out the members of its coalition.  What they did not realize is that a recent web archive captured the list of their members, and clearly shows Central Hudson among them.

As early as April 2022, the shenanigans of this group were exposed and Central Hudson was a part of New Yorkers for Affordable Energy even then.  Their lies and fear mongering about the cost of the New York’s climate plan were also noticed and reported by Politico.

The group is probably trying to draw a fine line between paying and non-paying members, because Central Hudson is not a contributing member.  Even if Central Hudson was not a member, that does not change the fact that the group is a 501(c)(6) business league set up to serve its members that include the likes of the American Petroleum Institute and National Fuel Gas, etc.  The only purpose of their Op-Ed with disinformation about the NY HEAT Act, which would save gas customers money, was to serve the fossil-fuel industry, whose interests they legally represent.  It’s quite simple:  when customers have lower gas bills, the gas industry takes in less money.

Sincerely,
Anshul Gupta
