GOSHEN – An Orange County Court jury, Monday, convicted a Walden man of manslaughter and assault in a road rage incident in which he rammed his Ford Escape into a van carrying eight people, killing three.

The incident occurred on August 4, 2021 at about 7 p.m. when Anthony Jones, 26, was driving eastbound on Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill between exits 118 and 119.

It was alleged at trial that Jones became angry at the van driver and collided with that vehicle.

In addition to the three deaths, one of whom was the driver, four other occupants were seriously injured, and another was not as seriously hurt.

District Attorney David Hoovler said this was not the first incident involving Jones.

“What makes this really egregious is that he had been involved in at least one other road rage incident, it was documented, and multiple speeding offenses over the last three years,” he said.

When sentenced in October, Jones faces five to 15 years in state prison.
