County Legislator Luis Alvarez

LIBERTY – Sullivan County District 6 Legislator Luis Alvarez continues to sit on four committees of the National Association of Counties (NACo).

NACo President Mary Jo McGuire notified Alvarez of his reappointment to the national advocacy organization’s Immigration Reform Task Force, Programs and Services Standing Committee, Rural Action Caucus, and Veterans and Military Services Committee.

“You were chosen because my goal is to build a talented and committed leadership team for NACo. Our strength at NACo is in our members and your active involvement. As we move forward together, now is the time for county leaders to connect, inspire and lead,” McGuire wrote in Alvarez’s appointment letter.

Alvarez has previously served on NACo’s Law Enforcement Subcommittee, Health Steering Subcommittee (as vice chair of Medicaid and Indigent Care), Healthy Counties Initiative Advisory Board, and Large Urban County Caucus Steering Committee. He began participating with the organization in 2017, when he was chairman of the Sullivan County Legislature.

A longtime, now retired, sheriff’s deputy, Alvarez also sits on the board of the NYS Association of Counties.

“I strongly believe in NACo’s mission and am proud to represent Sullivan County on its committees, which have national influence,” Alvarez said. “I remain committed to my constituents as their legislator, but it’s important to recognize that we’re part of a larger system of government that constantly needs review and improvement.”
