FLORIDA – Fire early Sunday afternoon destroyed a family’s home in the Village of Florida.
The blaze gutted much of the structure at 35 Jonah Circle.
The homeowner said he was out mowing his lawn when he smelled something burning in the garage.
He alerted his wife who said she was inside cooking. She got out safely along with the family cat.
The blaze reached three alarms as dozens of firefighters from seven neighboring departments rushed to home, which sits near the end of a cul-de-sac.
It took close to two hours to completely extinguish the fire.

There were no injuries reported.
Florida’s assistant fire chief said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
The displaced family is being helped by neighbors.
