FLORIDA- Dr. Lisamarie Spindler, now on the job as the Florida Union Free School District’s superintendent in Orange County, quickly announced a 100-Day Entry Plan and has launched a Listening and Learning Tour to meet with district faculty and staff, parents and community members.

Spindler, an Orange County resident who joined Florida July 1, also has been attending community events and meetings to learn about the community and establish relationships.  This investment, she said, is vital to effective leadership of the school district.  She introduced herself and outlined her vision in a letter to the community July 17.

“As I embark on this new journey with the Florida Union Free District, I am committed to working closely with our community to ensure every student receives a high-quality education,” said Spindler.  “Together, we will strive to unlock the boundless potential within each individual.  Education is the key that opens doors to limitless possibilities, and I am dedicated to creating an environment where our students can flourish.”

Spindler’s orientation to the district includes analyzing data and academic programs; her findings will influence potential innovation.  Immediate academic goals include developing strategies to advance student achievement in math and adding rigor to the district’s overall academic program.

Spindler also hopes to implement programs similar to those she spearheaded in other school districts.  “We created new program opportunities, such as early college … pathways, expanding (students’) horizons and preparing them for success.  To further support our families and scholars, we launched a Saturday Academy, providing additional academic and enrichment opportunities,” she said.

She outlined her 100-day plan:

  • Phase 1, Observe, Listen, Learn (Days 1-30):  Meet with the Board of Education and district leadership team; meet with building principals and support staff; meet with community stakeholders.
  • Phase 2, Analyze, Identify, Align (Days 31-60):  Analyze district data; meet with district committees; review district policies and procedures.
  • Phase 3, Prioritize, Strategize, Innovate (Days 61-90):  Plan the development of a district-wide strategic plan; develop a plan for community engagement and communication; enhance the district’s professional development plan for teachers that prioritizes student learning and student well-being.
  • Phase 4, Measure, Assess, Communicate (Days 90-100):  Optimize progress through trust and collaboration.

“I firmly believe that a strong partnership between the school district and the community is vital for our collective success,” Spindler said in her community letter.  “Your valuable insights, support, and collaboration will be instrumental in achieving our shared vision for education.”

Spindler was most recently superintendent of the Hudson City School District.  She also served as the Newburgh Enlarged City School District’s Assistant Superintendent of Finance and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum.  Previously, she served as a principal, assistant principal and teacher.  “These experiences have equipped me with a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of the complexities of our education system,” she said.
