Three arrested in Sullivan County with cache of guns and ammo

TOWN OF ROCKLAND – A traffic stop on Route 17 near exit 94 in the Town of Rockland on Thursday night, July 20, led to the arrests of three individuals and the seizure of weapons and ammunition.

The State Police Troop F Community Stabilization Unit saw a 2023 Hyundai Kona driving westbound shortly after 8 p.m. in violation of vehicle and traffic laws.

A sniff of the interior and exterior of the vehicle by K-9 Wink gave a positive alert to narcotics and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, yielding 10 firearms, a large amount of ammunition, several large capacity magazines, a Hydrocodone pill and a bookbag with cocaine residue.

Arrested were the driver, Tyquan Robinson, 32, of New York City, who initially gave a false name; front seat passenger Christian Tapscott, 34; and back seat passenger Tandra Smoots, 29, both of Decatur, Alabama.

All three were charged with criminal possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm and transportation of five or more firearms.

They were also charged with misdemeanor drug possession and Robinson was charged with false personation.

All three were arraigned in Rockland Town Court with Robinson being remanded to the Sullivan County Jail without bail due to being a two-time felony offender. The other two were remanded on $75,000 cash bail, $150,000 partial bond or $300,000 secured bond.
