NEWBURGH – Local 589 of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has secured a new five-year contract with the City of Newburgh. The previous agreement expired at the end of 2021.

All council members support the agreement including Ramona Monteverde who said it was a long time in coming.

“I hope that this shows good will that we are willing and that we support the fire department. We know that the hard work that they do. We couldn’t exist without the fire department,” she said.

The pact calls for no pay raise in 2022, a two percent raise in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Mayor Torrance Harvey noted all three city unions – IAFF, PBA, and CSEA all now have current contracts.
