NEW CITY- Rockland County Executive Ed Day (R, New City) and State Senator Bill Weber (R, New City) are applauding the MTA’s decision not to raise fares for commuters travelling on the West of the Hudson line.

“I am pleased to share that the MTA has listened to our concerns and will not raise West of Hudson fares,” said Day.  “Rockland County commuters certainly deserve this exemption.  I hope the Metro-North will additionally begin to finally improve and expand West of Hudson service from our County, specifically the Pascack Valley line service.”

State Senator Bill Weber was pleased with the MTA’s decision as well.  “Thank you to the MTA for finally listening to the concern of all Rockland County residents and elected officials like me who spoke out against the proposal to raise fares,” said Weber.  “Much still needs to be done to reform the MTA, and I will continue fighting for improvements.”

Despite not having a full vote on the MTA board, Day believes the voices of Rockland County residents were heard as MTA officials considered the fair hike.  “Many may feel like their voice does not matter.  This decision makes it clear that it absolutely does.  I would like to acknowledge everyone who shared my concerns and contacted MTA, ultimately contributing to the turnaround decision,” said Day.
