MONTICELLO- The Sullivan County Resiliency Plan focuses on strategies that improve access to critical resources and services for all communities and planning officials in Sullivan are looking for community input to make Sullivan County future-proof.

The resiliency plan is a study that asks residents to tell officials what needs to be done to help lessen the negative impact of catastrophic problems like an unexpected downturn such as the one created by the pandemic and environmental issues like flooding and severe storms.  It also looks at vulnerable communities, such as the elderly, to make sure they have access to food, shelter, and other essentials in the event of an emergency.

There are three core areas of focus:  economic resiliency, environmental resiliency, and community resiliency.  Heather Brown, acting commissioner of planning for Sullivan County, leads the resiliency plan effort.

“It tries to anticipate problems before they become problems so we can be more proactive,” said Brown.

Brown said that input from county residents is key to creating an effective resiliency plan.  Brown’s office is accepting feedback on the draft plan by email at planning@sullivanny.us and she is encouraging residents to visit the Resilient Sullivan website for more information.
