WURTSBORO – A father and son were critically injured in separate accidents, minutes apart, on Saturday afternoon in Mamakating.  The 43-year-old father and 14-year-old son were airlifted in separate medivac helicopters from the scene.

According to the Mamakating EMS, the rescue squad had two dedicated ambulance crews working in the district on Saturday that included a fair on Sullivan Street.
At approximately 12:20 p.m., one of the EMS crews was dispatched along with the Summitville Fire Department to a dirt bike accident in the Philipsport section of Mamakating. Upon arrival, the ambulance crew located a 43-year-old male that had sustained critical injuries after crashing the off-road motorcycle he was operating.  The injuries were severe enough that a medivac helicopter was summoned to transport the man to Westchester Medical Center.
While the crew was treating the adult male, a 14-year-old boy approached them, in obvious distress after an ATV accident that had occurred approximately 100 feet away from the first crash.  The second Mamakating crew and ambulance were summoned to the scene to assist.

First responders learned that the boy was the son of the man being prepped for the helicopter trip to Westchester.  After evaluation, it was determined that the child had sustained critical internal injuries and needed to be taken by helicopter to the Westchester Medical Center Pediatric Trauma Center.

EMS personnel were able to treat both patients and load them onto the helicopters for treatment at the hospital.
