CARMEL – A Danbury, CT man has been arrested by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office for DWI in violation of Leandra’s Law, which elevates the DWI to a felony when there is a child under the age of 15 in the vehicle.

Sheriff Kevin McConville says that 35-year-old Segundo Castro Rodriguez was arrested during the early morning hours of July 2.

At approximately 12:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies observed a vehicle traveling in the wrong lane on Danbury Road in the Town of Southeast.  Deputies stopped the vehicle and observed the operator, Rodriguez, in an intoxicated state.  McConville says that the driver failed numerous field sobriety tests and was arrested.

The two male passengers, ages 19 and 12, were turned over to a relative.

Rodriguez was arraigned in the Town of Southeast for the felony DWI and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.  He received an appearance ticket and is due to appear back in court at a later date.
