NAPANOCH – If you drove on Route 209 in the Napanoch area Tuesday morning, chances are you saw traffic lights out and several businesses closed because they had no electricity.

Fortunately, a Central Hudson crew was driving to one of their pre-assigned work locations when they saw the high voltage line come down to the ground and start a fire.

They called 911 for the fire and had the power shut down so they could repair the line, said Second Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Hill.

Central Hudson said the line may have come down after being struck by lightning.

On Monday night, utility poles and power lines were downed across the region as the torrential rains continued for hours.
