TOWN OF DOVER – The Duchess County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-car fatal crash that occurred on Route 55 in the hamlet of Wingdale at about 9:40 a.m. on Monday, June 26.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2011 Mazda3 sedan driven by Valerie Parsons, 80, of Wingdale, was entering Route 55 from a private driveway when it was struck by a 2015 Kenworth truck traveling eastbound on Route 55.
As a result of the crash, Parsons suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s deputies said at this time the primary factor in the crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way on the part of the Mazda.
The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner and the J.H. Ketcham Hose Company.
