YONKERS – Police in Yonkers have arrested a 24-year-old Yonkers man on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Joseph Dimitri Delgado was charged in connection with the incident.
The victim of the hit-and-run on Friday at about 9:40 a.m. was identified as Azhar Jamil Said, 78, of Yonkers.
Police found the victim unresponsive in the street with blunt force trauma to his body.
He was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Delgado was arrested within 28 hours of the tragic incident when it was determined the red Jeep Grand Cherokee with Florida plates that he was driving was a rental and he was identified as the driver.
He was located in an Elmsford hotel where he was arrested on Saturday.
