GOSHEN- Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America.  Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of scouts have earned this rank and on Saturday, June 17, 2023, Goshen Troop 63 welcomed ten more scouts to the rank of Eagle Scout, they are Michael Young, Jason Barnes, Jack Moran, Eric Bunzey, Joseph Carmona, Quentin Riley, Christopher Whitney, Javier Rodriguez, Luke Albanese and Tyler Kropp. They are the Troops 163rd-172nd Eagle Scouts to come out of Troop 63 in Goshen, NY.  Troop 63 is chartered by the Saint James Episcopal Church in Goshen, NY and the Scoutmaster is Jeffrey Albanese.  Albanese has been the Scoutmaster of Troop 63 since 2002.

These ten boys have served in various leadership positions in the troop such as Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol leader, Troop Instructor, Historian, Scribe and Chaplain.  To qualify for the Eagle rank, a scout must fulfill hundreds of requirements to move through the six ranks leading to Eagle.  Each rank must be held for four to six months, while actively participating in the troop.  The scout must also earn at least 21 merit badges. Each merit badge has its own set of requirements to complete.  Once a scout has moved through the first six ranks, they must complete an Eagle Project and then get approval for the Eagle rank.  This approval must be approved unanimously from the troop and local council through a lengthy review process that looks at the scout’s character and accomplishments.

An Eagle Project consists of successfully planning, designing, and leading a service project benefiting the community, a religious institution, or a school.  It takes a certain individual to be an Eagle Scout.   They must display a series of skills, abilities and characteristics that make them well-rounded contributors to their community and organization.

All of the Eagle scouts are active in Goshen High School activities and nine out of the ten boys are graduates of the class of 2023.

Troop 63 participates in many exciting events such as camping, hiking, and Pennsylvania and Washington, DC bus trips.  If you would like to learn more about becoming a boy scout please contact Scoutmaster Jeffrey Albanese at jalb@frontiernet.net or call 845-294-0424.

The troop meets every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., September through June at St. James Episcopal Church located at 1 St. James Place, Goshen, NY.  For more information please visit their website at https://www.troop63.scoutsprout.com.
