CARMEL – A Beacon man was arrested on several felony charges last week after an investigation at a Philipstown business where he worked.  On Tuesday, Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville announced the arrest of Walter Alex Munoz, 46, of Beacon after investigating a long-term financial crime involving his employer.

According to tthe sheriff, members of his department responded on June 1, to a complaint from a business owner who noticed questionable financial transactions in his business banking account.  The owner said several purchase orders were diverted as refunds to multiple unknown credit card accounts.  The diversion of funds is in excess of $189,000.

The case was transferred to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation that reviewed the business software and were granted subpoenas to review Munoz’s personal bank accounts.

After reviewing the evidence, Munoz was arrested on June 12 on felony charges of grand larceny, computer tampering, and falsifying business records.

Munoz was arraigned in the Philipstown Justice Court where he was forced to surrender his passport in exchange for being released on his own recognizance for a future court date.
