May jobs up in Hudson Valley

ALBANY – Jobs in the state grew year over year in May by 0.4 percent, or by 31,100, 60 to 8.25 million.

Percentagewise, jobs grew at a faster pace in the Hudson Valley at 1.1 percent, or 805,400.

The greatest grow in the 12-month period was in the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area at 1.6 percent. Ulster County jobs grew by 1.5 percent and Sullivan County jobs grew by 1.3 percent.

Jobs were flat in Delaware County while they fell in Greene County by 3.0 percent, by 1.6 percent in the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division, and by 0.6 percent in Columbia County.

Jobs grew the most in leisure and hospitality at 8.1 percent (+8,300). Private education and health services jobs grew by 3.7 percent (+5,100). While other services grew by 3.0 percent.

Construction saw 2.7 percent job growth (+800) while professional and business services grew by 2.2 percent.

Government and financial services jobs each expanded by 1.6 percent.

Natural resources and mining jobs fell by 3.6 percent. information jobs declined by 1.9 percent; while trade, transportation and utilities dropped by 0.8 percent (-1,500); and manufacturing fell by 0.2 percent (-800).
