NEW WINDSOR- A primary for Town of New Windsor Supervisor pits two-term Assemblyman and former candidate for Congress Colin Schmitt against Councilman Stephen Bedetti to determine who will represent the Republicans on the ballot this November.  There is no Democrat running for the post.

Incumbent Supervisor George Meyers (R, New Windsor) decided not to seek reelection due to a family health issue and endorsed Bedetti’s campaign.

Schmitt is the Director of Finance and Chief of Staff for the Town of Clarkstown in Rockland County.  Schmitt ran for Congress in the 18th Disrict in November 2022, and served two terms in the State Assembly representing parts of Orange and Rockland counties.  Prior to his time in the Assembly, Schmitt served as Chief of Staff to former Town of New Windsor Supervisor George Greene.

Schmitt is a sergeant in the Army National Guard, and is the Conservative Party candidate in November’s general election.  He has been endorsed by, among others, the Westchester County COBA, the New York Young Republican Club, and Highway Superintendent Anthony Fayo.

Stephen Bedetti, who has the formal endorsement of the New Windsor Republican Committee, is a volunteer with the Vails Gate Fire Department, serves on the department’s board, and has professionally served as a police dispatcher and part-time police officer.  Bedetti serves on the New Windsor Town Council, beginning his term in 2020.

He has been endorsed by the Civil Service Employees Association, the New Windsor PBA, Receiver of Taxes Susan Scheible, and outgoing supervisor George Meyers, to name a few.

Registered Republicans in the Town of New Windsor are eligible to vote in the primary election.  For details on polling locations and times, including early voting, visit the Orange County Board of Elections website.
