NEWBURGH – A 23-year-old Cornwall man, who State Police said was employed as a Newburgh city police officer, was arrested on charges of rape, sexual assault against a child and sexual abuse.

Police said on June 1 they were notified that at the time of the incident, John Kyle Dizon was employed as a law enforcement officer for SUNY Albany. He allegedly had sexual contact with a child under the age of 13 in April 2022 while in the Township of Bethlehem. He is no longer employed at the college, troopers said.

He was arrested on June 9 of this year and arraigned the following day at Westerlo Town Court, where he was remanded to the Albany County Jail without bail.

At the time of his arrest, police said Dizon was actively employed as a law enforcement officer in the City of Newburgh. That department has been advised and is cooperating with the investigation.

The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information related to this crime or believes they may also be a victim is asked to contact State Police at Latham at 518-583-7000 or email crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.
