Susan Lane home destroyed by fire.

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – A fire ripped through a single-family home on Thursday afternoon, destroying the house.  The New Hamburg Fire Department, along with the Wappingers Falls Fire Department responded to the Susan Lane address just before 2:00 p.m. and immediately requested a second alarm for additional apparatus and manpower.

Additional first responders from Hughsonville, Arlington, and the Village of Fishkill responded to the blaze to assist.

According to New Hamburg Fire Chief Jeff Renihan, “Firefighters made an aggressive attack to try to extinguish the fire,” but he noted that “heavy fire in the attack area” forced firefighters to withdraw from the structure allowing the ladder truck to attack the fire from above.

The fire was under control in approximately one hour.  No injuries were reported at the scene.

The Dutchess County Fire Investigation Division determined that the fire had started in the crawl space of the structure.  A “double wall” in the rear of the building allowed the flames to rapidly spread unimpeded and undetected into the attic.
