GOSHEN – A Newburgh man, who was convicted of a gun charge in 2018, was sentenced in Orange County Court on Tuesday to 12 ½ years in state prison following five years of post-release supervision in connection with his jury conviction on criminal possession of a weapon.

At sentencing, prosecutors recommended the maximum sentence of 15 years behind bars.

As alleged at trial, on July 29, 2022, Newburgh City Police and State Police responded to Fullerton Avenue in Newburgh for a report of a man with a gun. They found the defendant, Nicholas Palm, 29, with a loaded 9 mm firearm in his pants near where his hands were.

“The possession and use of dangerous firearms in hands of dangerous criminals is a recipe for disaster, said District Attorney David Hoovler.
